Immunotherapy

Long-term tolerance, not just symptom control.

Allergy immunotherapy is among the few treatments that addresses the underlying immune response rather than masking symptoms. By gradually retraining the immune system to tolerate specific allergens, immunotherapy can meaningfully reduce — and in some cases eliminate — the need for ongoing medication.

  • Oral Immunotherapy (OIT) · graduated, in-clinic dosing for food allergens including peanut, tree nuts, milk, and egg.
  • Subcutaneous Immunotherapy (SCIT) · injection-based desensitization for environmental allergens and stinging insect allergies.
  • Sublingual Immunotherapy (SLIT) · at-home daily dosing for select environmental allergens, prescribed and monitored by our specialists.

Your Questions, Answered

Curious about testing, referrals, or what happens at your first visit?

Do you offer allergy testing?

Yes. We offer comprehensive allergy testing including skin prick testing and blood testing to evaluate environmental allergies, food allergies, and certain medication allergies. All testing is performed and interpreted by an allergy specialist to ensure accurate diagnosis.

What will my first consultation look like?

Your consultation will include a detailed medical history, symptom review, and targeted testing where appropriate. Based on the findings, your specialist will develop a personalized treatment plan — which may include medications, avoidance strategies, immunotherapy, or further testing.

Should I stop any medications before testing?

Certain medications — especially antihistamines — can interfere with skin testing results. Our clinic will provide clear instructions ahead of your appointment regarding which medications should be temporarily held and for how long.

Does immunotherapy actually work?

Yes. Allergy immunotherapy is a highly effective treatment for food allergies, environmental allergies, and stinging insect allergies. By gradually retraining the immune system to tolerate allergens, it can reduce symptoms and medication use over time — and in many cases produce long-term tolerance.

Do I need a referral?

Yes. A referral from your family physician or healthcare provider is required for an OHIP-covered specialist consultation. Referrals may be sent directly to our clinic by fax, email, or Ocean eReferral.

Do you see both adults and children?

Yes. Our clinic provides allergy and immunology care for both adults and children — including evaluation of asthma, food allergies, eczema, hives, medication allergies, and immune-system concerns. Our specialists have specific training in paediatric allergy and immunology.
